Title: Sony Music Launches Gay Label
Post by: Feral on Tue, Jan 17, 2006, 02:31
Sony Music (http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=businessNews&storyID=2006-01-11T003754Z_01_KWA102206_RTRUKOC_0_US-MEDIA-TWIST.xml) on Tuesday said it was launching the first major music label dedicated to nurturing lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gendered artists.

The label, Music with a Twist, is a joint venture with Wilderness Media & Entertainment, the company led by Matt Farber, who founded Viacom Inc.'s MTV Networks' new gay and lesbian channel LOGO, which is available in an estimated 20 million homes.

While Sony's recent adventures in computer malware had soured me on ever buying one of their products again, this latest venture would be just the thing to make me revisit that decision.

No doubt the Religious Right will be swift to attack this venture.

Cool! But what exactly is Sony going to promote by the new label? Gay artists or gay art? The difference is important, as e.g. even straight artists are producing by times precious gay art, and gay artists producing mostly or only straight art... Though some people would say such thing like "gay art" or "straight art" does not exist, we know better!  ;D

However, there is much of art which is simply our common posession, being a gift of an artist to the entire humankind.

We shall have to see when it is properly unveiled this June.

It is my understanding though that Sony is seeking out gay artists with mass appeal. This is understandable since Sony is in the business of making money. They will be selling gay music to straight people. It is only fair -- they have been selling straight divas to the gay people for years.
