Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots

Although the struggle for gay rights had been taking place for many years earlier, the Stonewall Riots which began on the weekend of 28 June 1969 are often considered the beginning of the modern gay rights movement. Gay Pride festivities are usually, but not always, timed to commemorate Stonewall.
